Profile of Ali Bongo, ousted Gabonese president President of Gabon, Ali Bongo, was ousted on Wednesday morning by the military officers of the country. The military takeover, according to the statement released by the officers under the aegis of the Committee for the Transition and Restoration of Institutions, cited “serious institutional, political, economic and social crises” as among the factors responsible for the coup.   FG to employ 300, 000 Nigerians, 7,000 from each state August 28, 2023 The National Commission for the Coordination and Control of Proliferation of Small Arms and Light Weapons has said it plans to employ and train about 300,000 personnel across the federation to tackle illegal arms proliferation. The commission said about 7,000 personnel would be engaged in each state of the federation including the FCT. In a statement on Sunday, the Acting Director-General of NATCOM, Otunba Adejare Adegbenro, said the idea was to tackle arm proliferation thereby making the country safe. The statement read, “We are going to employ about 300,000 personnel across the country to make our nation a safer place. We won’t just employ, they will all undergo effective training. This, in itself, will also reduce the unemployment rate in the country. We shall join forces with other security agencies in driving our course.   N5bn palliatives to States, diversionary, wasteful – Femi Falana. Femi Falana, a popular Human rights lawyer and Senior Advocate of Nigeria has said the Federal Government’s N5 billion fuel subsidy removal palliatives are diversionary and a waste. Falana disclosed this on Friday during an interview on Channels Television monitored by DAILY POST. According to him, Tinubu should address the root cause: the dollarization of the country’s economy. He lamented that the Central Bank of Nigeria was wrong to have floated the Naira at the foreign market. “Most of the interventions are temporary, sometimes diversionary, because the major problem is the dollarisation of the economy”, he stated. Recall that Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno State disclosed that N5 billion had been released to the 36 States and Federal Capital Territory at the end of Thursday’s National Economic Council meeting.

The Osun State Attorney General and Commissioner of Justice, Honourable Wole Jimi-bada had reiterated the Position of Governor Ademola Adeleke to newsmen immediately after the conclusion of his visit to Ilesha and Ile-ife Correctional Centres.  While fielding questions from our correspondent at Ilesha, Hon. The State Commissioner for Justice and Attorney-General, Barrister Wole Jimi-Bada disclosed during his visit to Ilesa Correctional Centre on Thursday 10th of August, 2023. According to him, the visit is by Governor Ademola Adeleke's directive to ensure that all correctional centres in the state are decongested to end the burden of over-utilisation of prison facilities. In his word "The Governor had entrusted the State's Ministry of Justice with the pivotal responsibility of overseeing the multifaceted process of mitigating congestion within the state's correctional facilities".
