MASS DEFECTION ROCKS OSUN APC AS THEIR LEADERS DEFECT TO PDP IN ILESA EAST

The recent collapse of the Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), with its leadership defecting to the People's Democratic Party (PDP) in Ilesa East, marks a significant political shift in the region. This move underscores a growing momentum for the PDP in anticipation of the 2026 gubernatorial election.

On Sunday, March 24th, 2024, key figures within the Osun APC, including party chairmen, ward executives, and local government officials, made a decisive move to renounce their ties with the APC and unite with the ruling PDP. Their decision was fueled by a recognition of Governor Ademola Adeleke's notable achievements within less than two years of assuming office, contrasting sharply with what they termed as the "wastefulness" of the APC's twelve-year tenure.

The leader of the defectors highlighted Governor Adeleke's impactful governance as a catalyst for their allegiance shift. His administration's tangible progress and commitment to development resonated deeply with disillusioned members of the former ruling party. They cited Governor Adeleke's transformative initiatives; in Health sector, Education, Security and infrastructure as evidence of a more promising political future under the PDP banner.

Welcoming the defectors into the PDP fold, Osun State PDP Chairman, Honorable Sunday Bisi, commended their courage in acknowledging the truth about the current leadership landscape in Osun State. He assured them of equal treatment within the party, emphasizing inclusivity and unity as fundamental principles guiding the PDP's ethos.

In his address, Osun PDP Chairman, Hon Sunday Bisi urged the new members to actively engage in party activities at the grassroots level, emphasizing the importance of their presence in political wards for organizational purposes, documentation, and entitlements. This call to action underscores the PDP's commitment to grassroots mobilization and community engagement, recognizing the invaluable role played by local leaders in advancing the party's agenda.

The defection of prominent APC figures to the PDP signifies a significant realignment of political allegiances in Osun State. It reflects a broader trend of disillusionment with the status quo and a growing confidence in the PDP's ability to deliver inclusive governance and meaningful change.

As the PDP continues to consolidate its support base and expand its influence across Osun State, the stage is set for a dynamic and competitive political landscape leading up to the 2026 gubernatorial election. With the momentum gained from these recent defections, the PDP stands poised to capitalize on growing public sentiment and chart a new course for progressive governance in Osun State.
