Honoring the spirit of June 12: Jimi-Bada Celebrates Nigeria and Nigerians on Democracy Day

Dear Fellow Nigerians,

As we gather to commemorate Democracy Day on June 12, Barrister Oluwole Jimi-Bada extend his warmest congratulations to each and every one. This significant day in our national calendar symbolizes our collective commitment to the principles of freedom, justice, democratic governance, and the enduring spirit of the Nigerian people.

Democracy Day, a shift from the usual May 29, is now observed on June 12, a date etched deeply in our history. It commemorates the historic events of 1993, when millions of Nigerians cast their votes in what was deemed one of the freest and fairest elections in our country's history. Though the results were annulled, the spirit of June 12 remains a powerful reminder of our enduring legacy and quest for a government that truly represents the will of the people. A powerful testament to our collective aspiration for true democratic governance.

This year's Democracy Day is not just a time for celebration, but also a moment for reflection. We honor the courage and sacrifices of those who fought for our democratic rights and acknowledge the progress we have made. It is a day to reaffirm our dedication to the values of freedom, justice, and unity that are the bedrock of our democracy.

As we celebrate, let us also remember that democracy is an ongoing journey. Our kind of democracy is still a work in progress, and it requires the active participation of all citizens to thrive. Each of us has a role to play in building a more inclusive, equitable, and prosperous Nigeria. We deserve an active role in nurturing and sustaining our democracy, ensuring it works for the benefit of every Nigerian.

On this important day, the Attorney General and Commissioner of Justice of Osun State, salute the resilience and determination of all Nigerians. Let us continue to uphold the ideals of democracy, celebrate our unity in diversity, and strive together for a more equitable and prosperous Nigeria.

Happy Democracy Day, Nigeria!

E-signed,

Office of the Attorney General and Commissioner of Justice in Osun State
