A Good Term Deserves Another: Governor Ademola Adeleke , the Architect of a New Osun State It is often said that a good term deserves another, and this timeless adage perfectly encapsulates the visionary leadership and transformative governance of the Executive Governor of Osun State, Senator Ademola Nurudeen Jackson Adeleke . Since his assumption of office, Governor Adeleke has redefined governance through purposeful leadership, massive infrastructural renewal, and people-oriented policies that have repositioned Osun State for sustainable growth and development. Indeed, Osun has become a model of progress — a state now fondly described as “ a new London ” due to the rapid modernization of its towns and cities. The Governor’s achievements cut across all sectors — from quality road networks, improved healthcare delivery, and renovation of schools, to youth empowerment and social welfare programmes. These laudable efforts have brought smiles to the faces of citizens and renewed hope...

Osun NULGE Accuses FG Officials of Illegal Diversion of Local Government Funds

Primary Menu Osun NULGE Accuses FG Officials of Illegal Diversion of Local Government Funds     The leadership and members of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), Osun State chapter, on Sunday raised alarm over what they described as the “abuse of power and disregard for the rule of law” by top officials of the Federal Government in the management of local government funds. Addressing journalists in Osogbo, NULGE alleged that the Minister of Finance, the Accountant-General of the Federation, and the Attorney-General of the Federation illegally released statutory allocations of Osun’s local governments from March to September 2025 into accounts opened by “court-sacked APC chairmen and councillors.” According to the union, the funds were paid into accounts domiciled with the United Bank for Africa (UBA) despite subsisting court orders and the existence of legally recognized accounts operated by the 30 local government councils with career officers as s...

Awolowo’s Legacy and the Bleeding Nation: A Call to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu

Image
Awolowo’s Legacy and the Bleeding Nation: A Call to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu By Dr. Akinlooye Sarafadeen Olatunde, PhD Late Chief Obafemi Awolowo left an indelible mark on Nigeria’s political history with policies and principles that placed the people at the center of governance. His progressive ideology, famously known as Awoism, was built on free education, infrastructural development, and economic policies that genuinely uplifted the poor. Awolowo was not only a politician but a visionary leader whose style of governance remains a benchmark for true progressives in Nigeria. However, decades after his passing, many politicians continue to claim allegiance to Awoism while practicing the direct opposite of his values. In today’s Nigeria, rather than lifting citizens through progressive governance, political power is increasingly being wielded as an instrument of coercion and oppression. In the past, leaders used their political offices to suppress opposition and force defectio...

Governors who were removed from office since 1999

Governors who were removed from office since 1999 Since Nigeria returned to democracy in 1999, several state governors have been forced out of office before the end of their tenure. Their removal often came through impeachment, court rulings, or emergency rule, showing how politics, corruption scandals, and security crises have shaped leadership across the states. In Bayelsa State, Diepreye Alamieyeseigha, who became governor in 1999 and won re-election in 2003, lost his position in 2005. He was impeached by the state assembly after being accused of corruption and money laundering. His arrest in London and mysterious return to Nigeria made his removal one of the most talked-about events of that period. Oyo State faced its own crisis in 2006 when Governor Rashidi Ladoja was impeached, and his deputy, Christopher Alao-Akala, took over. Ladoja later went to court, and after months of legal battles, his impeachment was overturned, allowing him to return to power. That same year, Ekit...

Osun Local Govt Fund Seizure: APC Mean No Well for Osun Workers, Traditional Rulers and Others

Osun Local Govt Fund Seizure: APC Mean No Well for Osun Workers, Traditional Rulers and Others By: Arewa Oluwaseun The recent seizure of local government funds in Osun State by the All Progressives Congress (APC) is more than a fiscal misstep, it is gangsterism with a political mask, a very deliberate act of sabotage against the very soul of governance at the grassroots. At its core, local government allocations are constitutionally protected under Section 7 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended) and are intended to guarantee autonomy, grassroots development and prompt service delivery. By obstructing these funds for six months, APC has not only undermined the statutory rights of workers, traditional rulers and local communities but also exposed its deep-seated disdain for democratic order and social justice. From a governance standpoint, this act of fund seizure is symptomatic of a political culture that thrives on impoverishment. Local government councils are the bedrock of prim...

The Worsened State of Ife Roads, Blame APC Past Administrations, Not Governor Adeleke By: Arewa Oluwaseun For over a decade, Ife has been subjected to untold hardship due to the reckless abandonment of infrastructural development under the All Progressives Congress (APC) administrations. Today, when residents groan daily over dilapidated and impassable roads, it is only fair and honest to place the blame where it truly belongs, the past APC governments who had every opportunity to fix these roads but chose to enrich themselves at the expense of the people. In twelve long years, APC controlled Osun State, siphoning resources, making empty promises and turning Ife, an ancient city of global historical and cultural significance into a shadow of its potential. The roads linking our communities, markets, hospitals and schools have become death traps. Economic activities are suffocated because traders, farmers, transporters and ordinary commuters are forced to navigate potholes and flo...
