Osun Local Govt Fund Seizure: APC Mean No Well for Osun Workers, Traditional Rulers and Others

Osun Local Govt Fund Seizure: APC Mean No Well for Osun Workers, Traditional Rulers and Others By: Arewa Oluwaseun The recent seizure of local government funds in Osun State by the All Progressives Congress (APC) is more than a fiscal misstep, it is gangsterism with a political mask, a very deliberate act of sabotage against the very soul of governance at the grassroots. At its core, local government allocations are constitutionally protected under Section 7 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended) and are intended to guarantee autonomy, grassroots development and prompt service delivery. By obstructing these funds for six months, APC has not only undermined the statutory rights of workers, traditional rulers and local communities but also exposed its deep-seated disdain for democratic order and social justice. From a governance standpoint, this act of fund seizure is symptomatic of a political culture that thrives on impoverishment. Local government councils are the bedrock of prim...

The Worsened State of Ife Roads, Blame APC Past Administrations, Not Governor Adeleke By: Arewa Oluwaseun For over a decade, Ife has been subjected to untold hardship due to the reckless abandonment of infrastructural development under the All Progressives Congress (APC) administrations. Today, when residents groan daily over dilapidated and impassable roads, it is only fair and honest to place the blame where it truly belongs, the past APC governments who had every opportunity to fix these roads but chose to enrich themselves at the expense of the people. In twelve long years, APC controlled Osun State, siphoning resources, making empty promises and turning Ife, an ancient city of global historical and cultural significance into a shadow of its potential. The roads linking our communities, markets, hospitals and schools have become death traps. Economic activities are suffocated because traders, farmers, transporters and ordinary commuters are forced to navigate potholes and flo...

ADELEKE’S GOVERNMENT UNDER SIEGE: THE ILLEGAL WITHHOLDING OF OSUN LG FUNDS

Image
ADELEKE’S GOVERNMENT UNDER SIEGE: THE ILLEGAL WITHHOLDING OF OSUN LG FUNDS By Dr. Akinlooye Sarafadeen Olatunde The government of Senator Ademola Adeleke in Osun State is presently under intense frustration and systemic attacks orchestrated through the seizure of local government allocations, violations of judicial processes, and violent disruptions led by opposition figures. Despite the governor’s commitment to infrastructural development, workers’ welfare, and grassroots empowerment, his administration faces deliberate obstacles because the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) controls the federal system. The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), traditional rulers across Yorubaland, and civil society groups have appealed to the Federal Government for intervention. Yet, the silence from Abuja has raised concerns about selective justice and constitutional abuse. What is happening in Osun today mirrors the historic struggle of Lagos State under Bola Ahmed Tinubu when his administrati...

INEC, Credible Elections, and the Future of Nigeria

Image
INEC, Credible Elections, and the Future of Nigeria By Dr. Akinlooye Sarafadeen Olatunde The destiny of Nigeria as a nation rests significantly on the efficiency, impartiality, and genuineness of its electoral body, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). In every democracy, elections are the lifeblood of governance, and when they are tainted by favouritism, bias, or financial inducement, the very foundation of justice and development is compromised. For Nigeria, already burdened with decades of underdevelopment despite her abundant human and natural resources, credible elections are not just desirable—they are indispensable. As we approach the 2026 Osun State gubernatorial elections and the 2027 general elections, the role of INEC becomes even more crucial. The Commission must rise above every form of manipulation, inducement, or pressure from political actors and demonstrate unwavering commitment to justice and equity. Elections must not be avenues for rewarding u...

From Winning Elections to Governing Well: The Real Road Nigerians Must Follow

Image
From Winning Elections to Governing Well: The Real Road Nigerians Must Follow By Dr. Akinlooye Sarafadeen Olatunde Comrade Elda Akor’s remark — “Follow who know road… Jagaban knows the road… Slow and steady to the promised land” — may capture the political resilience that propelled President Bola Ahmed Tinubu into Aso Rock after the 2023 general elections. Indeed, the last presidential race was a display of political mastery, where, against all odds, Tinubu maneuvered through a turbulent electoral landscape and emerged victorious. But, two years into this administration, the real question is no longer who knows how to win elections, but who knows how to govern for the people’s good. Politics may open the door to power, but governance determines whether that door leads to progress or deeper national despair. And as the president drives the political and leadership bus of our dear country Nigeria, he should drive safely and not to empty the nation into irreparable doom. Unfortunate...

A Call to Rebuild Nigeria: From a Fading Giant to a Flourishing Nation

Image
A Call to Rebuild Nigeria: From a Fading Giant to a Flourishing Nation By Dr. Akinlooye Sarafadeen Olatunde Nigeria, fondly called the Giant of Africa, once stood tall in pride and promise. The Nigeria of yesteryears was a land of hope—its economy robust, its communities safe, its people vibrant with optimism. We were known for our agricultural abundance, thriving industries, and a spirit of unity that inspired the continent. But today, the story has turned sour. Economic hardship bites deep, insecurity has become a daily fear, and the dream of prosperity seems to slip further from our grasp. Are we to stand idly by and watch the ship of Nigeria sink while her citizens groan under the weight of hunger, poverty, and despair? Are we to let our children's future be stolen by greed, corruption, and mismanagement? Certainly not! It is time for every Nigerian—leaders and citizens alike—to rise with a renewed determination to rebuild this nation into one that others will emulate. Good go...

The Weakening Structure and Diminishing Capability of the PDP: Will the Party Survive the Storm Before 2027?

The Weakening Structure and Diminishing Capability of the PDP: Will the Party Survive the Storm Before 2027? By Dr. Akinlooye Sarafadeen Olatunde In Nigeria’s fast-paced and drama-filled political landscape, few parties have enjoyed the power and prominence once held by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). From ruling the country uninterrupted between 1999 and 2015, the party now faces a creeping erosion of its foundational structures, internal coherence, and public trust. With the 2027 general elections drawing nearer, PDP's relevance is under fierce interrogation, especially following recent political tremors involving defections, infighting, and strategic disloyalties across key states—Osun being a notable example. A Historical Context of Dominance to Decline PDP once prided itself as the largest political party in Africa. It had a well-oiled political machinery, deeply rooted grassroots structures, and influential powerbrokers across the six geopolitical zones. However, its fa...
